This is the entry level to the departmental automation and information technology job series. It is a journey-level multi-disciplinary technical support job classification. Incumbents independently perform a wide range of routine and recurring technical support services for an assigned department and identify and enlist additional resources to handle more complex issues or problems.
User support duties typically involve operations issues and transactions such as printer malfunctions, system access, password reset, account log-off, error messages, and removing viruses and spyware. Desktop support duties typically include routine installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and shrink-wrapped software support for department desktop workstations, and conducting workstation ergonomic reviews. Production and/or server support duties typically include installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and production support for department servers and mid-range computers, including hardware, operating system software, and communication protocols. Application support duties typically include supporting the operation, maintenance, and upgrading of department-specific applications, the provision of user support and training, and user group management.
