Principal Network Engineer $159,692 – $200,850

City and County of San Francisco

The Department of Technology (DT) Public Safety Division is looking for a Principal Network Engineer to join the team that designs, builds, and supports the City’s public-facing municipal network. The goal of this network is to provide free Internet access to affordable housing residents through its Fiber to Housing Program, and to the #SFWiFi network available in our parks and along Market Street. This network currently serves 100+ affordable housing sites, and 30+ parks. The public-facing network, which is separate and distinct from the City’s private enterprise network, requires unique design and administration considerations due to its distinct service, support, and security requirements.

The Principal Network Engineer will join the technical team that designs, expands, and supports the public-facing network for the City. This role is under the general direction of the Fiber to Housing Program Manager and works closely with the City’s fiber construction and inside network teams. The Principal Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the network infrastructure. Overall, the duties and responsibilities of a Principal Network Engineer require a strong technical background, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with other teams and stakeholders within our organization.
